2024 TATANKA NAJIN WACIPI
We are thrilled to invite you to the Tatanka Najin Wacipi, a vibrant celebration of our culture and traditions, set to take place on August 9, 10, and 11, 2024. Nestled just 6 kilometers west of Fort Qu’Appelle, SK, this event promises to be a gathering of community, music, and dance that you won’t want to miss.
As the sun rises over the prairies, the sounds of the Host Drums from Indian Hill, USA & Riverside Dakota Sioux Valley will set the rhythm for the weekend. Joining them will be a remarkable lineup of invited drums, including Bad Nation, Crazy Creek, Dakota Hotain, Ironswing, Otter Trail, Poundmaker, Six Shooter, Mato Pejuta, White Fish Jrs., and Woodenface. Their songs will resonate through the grounds, creating an atmosphere of unity and celebration.
Our Chief & Council Specials will be a highlight each night, offering prizes for adult categories with awards ranging from $500 to $100. Additionally, we are honored to host special events such as the Men’s Traditional Honouring the Life and Memory of Richard Whitecloud, Wica-kta-na "He Who Kills First" and the late Dainius Isnana Jr. Men’s Grass Dance Memorial Special. We are also excited to present the Honouring Wakiyan To Win “Blue Thunder Woman” - 18+ Women’s Traditional Special, sponsored by the Tiwahe (family).
The event will feature a variety of competitions that showcase the skill and grace of our dancers. Categories include Tiny Tots, Golden Age, Senior Men & Women, Junior Men & Women, Teens, and Juniors, with prizes rewarding the top performers. The Princess Pageant and Akiñcita will add to the spirit of competition and camaraderie. Indian Auction on Sunday.
For sports enthusiasts, our 4 Man Scramble Golf Tournament on August 9, 2024, at Echo Ridge Golf Course will be a highlight. The entry fee is $1,500, with a $500 non-refundable deposit required by July 31, 2024. It's a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a day on the greens while supporting our community.
Our Pow-wow Committee, led by President Jordan Redman, along with Vice President Rodney Isnana, Treasurer Jolene Redman, Secretary Leanne Goodfeather, and Cultural Advisors Sharon Yuzicappi and Keith Ryder, has worked tirelessly to ensure this event is unforgettable. They are joined by our dedicated leadership team, including Chief Rodger Redman and council members Brendon Wajunta, Dwayne Redman, Jr., Colter Goodwill, Greg Moostoos, Minnie Ryder, and Beckie Yuzicappi.
Throughout the weekend, our Arena Directors, Darrell Goodwill, Nathaniel Deegan, and Darwin Goodwill, will oversee the festivities, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Our Masters of Ceremonies, Harold Blacksmith and Tommy Christian, will guide us through each event with their wisdom and experience.
This gathering is more than just an event; it is a celebration of our heritage and our ongoing sovereignty as a nation, as a people. We welcome you to join us for the Buffalo BBQ Feed, enjoy the diverse food vendors, and participate in the activities designed for all ages.
Please note that we will have Wasteste Sound managing the audio, C&T Tabulations for accurate results, and security/first aid on-site for everyone's safety. We kindly ask that no outside raffles be brought to the event and that you join us for the Sunday Supper Break.
